What Was The Reaction of The Audiences of India To The Movie "Gandhi"?

To me as an American it was a very interesting film, I came away
knowing more and appreciating more about Gandhi than I had known
before. But how did the audiences of India react to it? Were there
any glaring errors? Any important omissions? Did the film accurately
recount Gandhi's life and accomplishments? Thank you for your
